The first records of the congregation now known as Bushvale date from 1748, when a small "society" gathered in the townland of Magherabuoy. After the union of the Synods in 1848, the congregation adopted the name "Second Kilraughts" This is because most of its members would have originally belonged to the older and long-established congregation of Kilraughts, from which they had earlier seceded. The congregation bore the name of Second Kilraughts until early in the 20th Century, (1905) when the name was changed to "Bushvale".
